New Coffee Table

Finally starting a new project - This one is for a coffee table which is another piece of furniture I could use at home.

This one started with some sketches over the course of a few months

The last 2 sketches I think will be another cool table I'll get to later.

When I finished the first shelving unit I had a lot of left over ash and lately I've been using scraps to make cutting boards or spoons. Then I made a kitchen counter tray that was also a bit of model for the coffee table I have started. This was a cool way to see what the sketch ideas would look like in 3 dimensions without using CAD software (which is crazy expensive now) or spending the time and money to make a full size mock-up. I was really happy with the results and it looks great in the kitchen, see below

The table is going to be a bit of a mash-up of the sketches and kitchen tray above looking something like this.

The first night in the shop I spent some time sketching some scale elevations of the table on graph paper, then plane/cut my lumber down to size and sketched the elevation full scale on the lumber. Then I cut the leg profile on the band saw. This was fun, so far so good, I like the size and feel just need to cut 5 more leg profiles and 7 table profiles next week.

I can tell the table is going to be very heavy, I might need to hollow out part of it to reduce the weight but hopefully not, I want it to feel substantial. Next week I hope to get all pieces cut on the band saw and sanded to there final profile before gluing together.
